RARE EARLY 20TH C VINT 1920'S HND PNTD ENML MICKEY MOUSE WOOD FIG c. WALT DISNEY
DISNEY, in RED, GOLDEN YELLOW, BLACK, WHITE & CANTALOPE COLORS, with OVAL WALT DISNEY MAKER'S LABEL DECAL on FIGURE'S CHEST. Early 20th century Ame ri can vintage authentic, original, enamel painted wooden figures depicting the Walt Disney character Mickey Mouse.
3 58" Height x 1 58" Width x 1 14 Depth. With only the slightest evidence of previous use, this circa 1920's hand painted, enamel over lathe-turned wooden assemblage of Mickey Mouse, copyrighted by Walt Disney, remains in exceptional condition, with both black painted pressed thin board ears, remaining intact and nearly without any noticeable damage. Only the gold, red and black oval Walt Disney decal found on the chest of the figure, has some very minor edge loss along its very top margin.
This is very minimal and the typography is clear and easily read. All the component parts of this early Walt Disney Mickey Mouse enamel painted figure are present and intact. The flex wire arms and legs are without breaks or distortions.
The wooden figure has hand painted golden-yellow wooden knobs for hands and carved cantaloupe orange painted, oversized booted feet. It's abdomen is painted in crimson red with two black spots stenciled on top.
The bulbous nose is painted in gold. The eyes are stenciled with charcoal black spray paint. For this figure to now be nearly, if not 100 years old, and to remain in this kind of well-preserved overall condition, is simply remarkable.
It's estate fresh and was found wrapped in a box in a fine southern New Hampshire estate. It doesn't have any fractures or loss and only the face has some minor soiling on the white painted enamel surfaces, which is an indication that yes, a child at some point previously in time, once handled it and even possibly played with it meaning it wasn't hermetically sealed in a vacuum chamber.
It's almost pristine and nearly in immaculate condition, which is usually only said when a piece comes in its original box and was seldom, if ever touched. There are no repairs (old or new) and the ears, being painted in black enamel paint over what is a pressed paper thin hardboard material, are still incredibly intact and don't suffer breaks, creases or paint loss, as is usually seen on these 1920's enamel painted Mickey Mouse wooden figures. A remarkable early 20th century Ame ri can cultural artifact. Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.
